Anyhow, I think I'm gonna try this Couch to 5K thing that a lot of people have been doing these past few years. I figure it'll help give me some kind of goal with this cardio thing. I just hate cardio soooo much. It's boring. :( I like sports and strength training, but I feel like there is no real end-goal to cardio, so it bores me to death. What's supposed to motivate me to keep running?

So yeah. I think I'll start updating the blog again. I know I've said that before and then stopped, but I will try to make an effort this time. Some things I just don't want to say on facebook, twitter, tumblr, etc. This is a nice place since there is a sense of history to it. So there.

I've been watching what I eat for almost a year now, so I wanted to post my progress. I've certainly had my ups and downs throughout my life, but this feels good ... and I certainly still indulge quite a bit. It's certainly a different lifestyle than college and grad school. I don't think I've felt relatively healthy since high school.

It's been cold! for Southern California anyway. Hehe. But not a lot of rain or snow in the mountains thus far.

I wasn't even sure I would be going to this concert, but I'm so glad I did. It was my first (and won't be my last) time seeing Ingrid in concert. She sounded great and had great stage presence. She interacted well with the audience and just performed a fantastic show. Also, props to her band! They were great too. I also appreciate that she had two female band members.

I was in the area the other day for a friend's birthday and decided to take a stroll through. The area is so cute! Eve came to visit in March!

Went to Vegas with the fam in May! Stayed at the Aria, which is a VERY NICE hotel. Unfortunately, it has a nauseating vanilla scent throughout the casino as part of its ventilation system. I guess I gotta hand it to them: the hotel didn't smell like cigarette smoke at all. Just vanilla. Strong vanilla.

Went to see the Viva Elvis Cirque du Soleil show. Took some stealth pics:

Damn. I've been quite busy. Summer quickly turned into fall. Summer was not great for me. It was hot, jobless, and not that fun, though it ended with a bang. Sigh. I like Fall. Fall is soothing. Except for the Santa Ana winds, but those generally happen in early Fall. It's October now and deep into the season. Fall going into Winter is my favorite time of the year. The air smells different and there's a slight cool breeze. This time of the year makes me nostalgic. The smell of Fall mornings make me think of when I would walk to school in the early mornings. At night, when looking at the stars, I remember how my best friend and I would lay on a blanket on her front lawn and stargaze. And of course the holidays arrive and those are happy times for the most part, right? For the most part.

Anyway, things I would have updated with are now long gone and they don't matter anymore. So I'll start anew. This past weekend, I went to the West Hollywood Halloween Carnival thing. It was pretty crazy and crowded. Mostly crowded. Anyway, photos to come soon. I hope.

Oh. And I can't believe USC lost so badly against Oregon. Well. It's been a pretty exciting season anyway with our new QB.

minor netflix complaint

I'm just updating my Netflix queue and I'm noticing how many of my new film choices are labeled as "very long wait." I think it's kind of ridiculous and I'm about ready to unsubscribe. If I switch to Blockbuster, then they have the deal where you can go to the physical store and pick up DVDs too. Ugh. I'm sick of having to wait weeks and weeks for new releases.

So after watching Julie & Julia with H, I got really hungry afterward! [Click here to go to Julie Powell's original blog that started her adventure] Our conclusion (jokingly) was that since Julia Child and her husband ate so much butter and drank so much wine and still lived till their 90s, it would be A-OK for us to also eat and drink that much. LOL.

All kidding aside, it inspired me to try to make boeuf bourguignon, which I've always wanted to make anyway. So here goes! I hope mine comes out looking (and tasting) yummy like that photo.

P.S. The movie was pretty cute! Meryl Streep was amazing of course. I felt a little awkward in this one scene where Julia Child and her husband were about to get it on. But I digress. Amy Adams was super cute. I give the movie 4 stars because the food looked amazing and also helped me with my omelet flipping technique. Julie's husband in the movie was kind of annoying though. He had bad eating habits and would always eat with his hands and chomp on his food and talk with his mouth full. I guess it's a petpeeve. ;)

I think all the people I know talking about going back to school prompted this dream. Anyway, I dreamed I was going back to law school and moving nto this HUGE apartment/dorm where my room was big enough for TWO huge desks and bookshelves. There were two in wall AC units. LOL. My roomate from freshmen year of college was my roommate again. I was so ready for classes in my dream!

Ah well ... Maybe I had that dream in anticipation of today.

I haven't sat and listened to music for months now since I don't like sitting at my desktop at home usually, which is where all my music is. But now that I've cleaned up my desk area a bit, it's nice to hear some forgotten gems :)

Speaking of music, you know how much I love karaoke. Well, I used to occasionally visit this site called SingShot, which later turned into Sims Onstage (by EA). Well, that site sadly shut down :( However, I've found that many people who used the former web site have migrated over to The Karaoke Channel. I'll give it a try and post a review later. :)

Went to see Ryan Cabrera at the House of Blues in Anaheim yesterday. He was actually a pretty good performer and we really enjoyed him. He was funny and had good stage presence. AS you can see from the photos, he still has the same big spiky hair! Hehe.

The opening acts were okay, but there were entirely too many! LOL. The ticket said 7:30 and Ryan didn't get on stage until past 10:00. I got so sleepy, I had to drink a redbull.

One of the guys' voice sounds a little like the lead singer in Deep Blue Something. Just a little.

Opening Act 2: Rachael Cantu. Myspace
I like her music, but I think perhaps the crowd was just not into it because it was too mellow.

Opening Act 3: Taylor Collins. Myspace
He was kind of mellow at some points too, but when his band came out, it got a bit better. Also, he sang this duet with a girl that was pretty cute! It's not on his myspace, but "Peripheral" was pretty good live.

Ryan Cabrera was funny! I cracked up at one point because he started quoting Paul Rudd's character in I Love You Man, where he says "slappin' the bass!" in a Jamaican accent. Below is a clip of him doing it followed by footage of him taking a shot bought by a fan.

So on July 4, I went to Vegas and took my mom to see Michael Buble! He turned out to be a fantastic performer and such a cutie! I should've posted something when I first went when it was fresh in my mind. So all I can do now is post some photos. I do remember the very last song of the night being "Your Song" which melted my heart. I so so so love that song. The voice ... the lyrics. *swoon*

Here are some photos. Near the end, he encouraged everyone to get up and dance. My seats were pretty good in the first place, but when everyone got up, I naturally got as close to the stage as I could get. Not bad, right?

So the amazing performer Michael Jackson passed away yesterday. I feel a little strange about it, but mostly nostalgic. I think it's a shame that he passed away, living such a "painful" life, despite being successful on the surface. I'm sad I never got to see him in concert as I've always wanted to. Anyway, I'm just going to post a clip of something I thought was pretty cool about him too: he was a master beat boxer! A lot of people focus on his singing and dancing, but this part of his art was pretty cool too. Say what you will about his crazy persona, the man was musically talented. I hope one day we find out what the hell went on in his life and what made him kinda mentally unhealthy. There's this really great clip of him beat boxing for Oprah, but it seems the harpo team has removed them :(

California Supreme Court upholds Proposition 8

I know many many blogs have analyzed the Court's decision that came down today. Click here to download the Court's 185 page opinion. I haven't read through it much. But from what I gather, the court made a sound decision given the support the parties presented to the justices. :(

I don't have much to say that is different from the many many people who have already commented. I DO want to express how while I'm sad about the holding, I can't blame the judges for their opinion. They could only go with what the law allows them to do and they did that. They considered each side's opinion and then made a conclusion based on precedence and the law. It shouldn't have any reflection on whether or not the judges are for or against same-sex marriage. Many people are expressing how disappointed they are in the judges, but I don't think people should be disappointed in them. The judges made the decision once before to uphold same-sex marriage (please see In re Marriage and the opinion of the case that prompted Proposition 8 to be on the ballot!), so it's not like they are explicitely against the idea. But it would have taken a very compelling argument to convince the judges to allow for an overturn of a voted initiative to amend the California Constitution. It was essentially a very slim chance the judges would (radically) hold otherwise.

I also don't agree with those who are saying things like "Shame on California. I thought California was above this / further than this / etc." Well obviously it isn't; otherwise Proposition 8 would never have been passed in the first place.

I think rather than blame the judges, we should educate people about the issues (like it's not a preference? the world won't end, children will not become immoral, it's not "Holy Matrimony" that people seek, but rather EQUAL RIGHTS that "marriage" [the legal term] provides) and eventually get people to support a new initiative in the future to "amend" the Constitution.

So Jewel teamed up with Perez Hilton this past Mother's Day to throw a special CD release party for Lullaby. It was super cool because it was at the friggin Roxy!!! I believe the last time she played the Roxy was something like 1996. Needless to say, I was ecstatic for the show. I got there about 1.5 hours early and was among the first 20 people or so. So I've noticed that we are getting a slew of telemarketing calls! And I mean from 8 AM to 7 PM. It's really aggravating and I get to the point where I just let the machine pick up now. So I went to the National Do Not Call Registry to file a complaint. In doing research to file the complaint, I discovered that our original registration expired within 5 years! We did it in 2003. No wonder we've been getting so many calls.

Anyway, I just wanted to post this to remind people to re-register your number in the Do Not Call list so that you can remain (relatively) telemarketer-free.

1. Sometimes it sucks to live so near an airport because of the occasional airshows and supersonic booms. Kinda scares me when our house rumbles. But occasionally, we get to see some neat planes up close. I saw a stealth plane once.

2. I took some adorable photos of my dog! He's old now ... like 13 or 14 years old. And a chihuahua-dachshund mix.

3. While it's been blizzarding and raining elsewhere, it was in the 70s here. This is from my backyard.

So last night I had a dream that was sort of like The Day After Tomorrow. But instead, we were getting a huge tsunami and then that would follow with blizzard-like weather. So in preparation, we had to congregate to this underground area (which doesn't even make sense). Anyway, I end up in this subway car type thing and I grab hold of a pole and hope to dear life we don't topple over and get squished. Anyway, there's a countdown clock and when the time comes. Water fills up our area, but doesn't come in our car and we begin to move along the rails and reach outside, where apparently, it's not flooded anymore. However there's a big mess and it's beginning to blizzard. I'm feeling stupid bc a few people in the car with me have winter gloves, but at least I have boots on with a snowboarding coat and a beanie. I said to my friend "damn it! I totally read that you should have your winter gloves with you in case of this event too!" So my friends and I end up having to go into this shelter, where the surviving people have to make do with the situation. The healthy people have to take turns going to find food.

I was really scared in the dream and woke up with the scared feeling. *sigh* I'm gonna blame it on my medicine giving me these weird dreams. This wasn't the scariest dream I've ever had though. (I once had a creepy dream where there was a bomber who made people line up on the 15, facing outward, as he prepared to set off a nuclear bomb. And the creepy part was the silence of the entire dream.)

So my dog came into my room with the usual wakeup call. But after I didn't respond, I hear this low gutteral growling coming from the foot of my bed. I creep to the edge to find my dog a good 2 feet from my mirror growling. I start laughing and my dog gets distracted and goes to explore the mirror and his reflection. It was so funny and cute!

Must have been a slip in his old age bc I've tried to play with him and a mirror or tv before and he's never responded. He usually is bored or ignores it.

I wasn't planning on going to this show but decided at the last minute so I had pretty bad seats. The venue itself is the strangest venue I've ever been to! The setup was just bizarre. It wasn't a theater at all and more like a hotel ballroom or convention center. It was just flat seating arrangements. I've uploaded the photo so you can see how ghetto it looked. I was worried about the sound but since I was so near the speakers it was okay. I felt like I was at an auction or a conference where a keynote speaker would come along any minute. I had an urge to wear a nametag.

Jewel had crutches and performed sitting down the entire night due to her injuries. I would have liked to say the concert was great, but can't because of the obnoxious audience. It might have been because of my far seats and because of the venue itself, but I couldn't enjoy Jewel as I usually do. The area around me was so noisy with people chatting and even on their cell phones. The bar/food staff at the venue were very loud at certain points of the concert and was distracting. People laughed and chatted during her new very emotional song "Shape of You"/"Hole in my Heart" and it was pretty annoying. This drunk lady in front of me kept requesting "6 AM" ... I think she meant YWMFM. LOL.

I really love the new song. I hope there's a studio recording of it because it's just a beautiful song. I'm loving the videos available on youtube right now, but I need the real deal :)

access group can suck it

Access group is the company that issued me my grad school loans. I owe them a lot. I could even buy a (small broken down) house with how much I owe them. I know. So who doesn't hate their lenders? But it doesn't mean I can't be frustrated with them. Here's just a bullet point list of reasons why access group can suck it.

No one at Access can tell me why certain loans were deferred while certain loans are in repayment, even though I sent in my deferment form to apply to all of them and the repayment loans were on the record at that time.
Their fax number does NOT work.
For no reason at all they had an incorrect mailing address on file for me. The address, after googling, turns out to be an old address to the Donations Dept of the Huffington Post. Okay.
The lady speaking to me today put me on hold, thought she hung up on me, then tried calling me, which resulted in the phone ringing and ringing on my call waiting.
They often send the same letter (with same reference code) to me in 5-7 envelopes. I guess this was before they had my nonexistent DC address.
Their effin' fax number does NOT work!

They just seem highly disorganized. Grrrr. And of course, they didn't call me until apparently my first loan payment was past due by 31 days and my next payment was due the next day. How lovely.

So I'm just catching up on my Sundance news, and I come across a bit of news regarding Michael Cera and his new movie with real life girlfriend Charlyne Yi. The film, called Paper Hearts, is a documentary style flick, focused on Charlyne, who apparently doesn't believe in love. They play themselves in the film and in the film, they fall in love. Dearest A and FB,

We've both been through a lot. I just wanted to express my frustration in our relationship at this point. A, we've always had our differences, but we still existed quite peacefully with those differences. What, with your possessiveness and proprietary protections, it's been hard to get close to you. And FB, well, let's just say you've changed so much.

A, I've had a hard time trusting you. It was hard to get close to you because of all your restrictions and constraints. But with the iPhone, I've found a happy balance to our relationship. I only come to you when it was necessary and you didn't bother me. I don't ask for much out of our relationship; just that we can coexist.

And FB ... my my my. You had to woo me for a long time. And during that period, I was so hesitant to get to know you. I was so afraid of revealing too much about myself. But alas, you wooed me. You got a hold of me. And we consummated our relationship. But then, you changed. And boy did YOU change. It wasn't me, it was you. And I've been forgiving because let's face it, you should evolve, as everyone else does. Relationships evolve too. And I have gone along with the changes without even commenting on your changes in my status updates or joined groups against the change like others. I've been complacent.

BUT NOW. Now, A and FB, it's hard to go along with what you two have conspired. Come this morning, I've found out that I can no longer upload photos via the mobile upload email anymore! And when I tried, I got an auto response email saying "Sorry, we cannot support uploads sent via email. Upload photos from your iPhone with our free application, Facebook for iPhone."

So let me explain why I'm so upset. I'm upset because for one thing, FB, while I've let you change and do what you want, you are now forcing ME to change. And that, I can't really handle. Don't you know that forcing others to change is not a good basis in a relationship? You and A have gone behind my back to force ME to go and install this useless application on my phone if I want to do a simple mobile upload! AND, I think it's a little discriminatory. Why do iPhone users have to install a special application while other cell phone users can continue using the mobile@facebook.com upload medium? A, again, your boundary issues have caused this problem! I just know it! Why did you have to interfere with my relationship with FB??? Why???

I don't want to install your stupid application. I like my phone the way it is. I don't want to update my hardware! So, this just saddens me that A, you have again pushed my away from something I've grown to really really like (not quite the big L yet).

Training: Today was pretty basic. All I did was run a mile (new personal best!) and then do some lunges and squats. The squats were done with a 12 pound ball. As I stood up, I had to throw the ball straight up, then catch it and go down for the squat. I did 15 per set. With the lunges, I stood with my forward foot up to a wall and on my way up from the lunge, I had to toss the ball upward against the wall. I did 15 on each foot. I also did some squats with an 18 pound bar on my back. Ugh. That bar is friggin heavy. In between, I took a lap around the indoor track.

Jewel: Jewel is doing this really cool charity thing. She is auctioning off handwritten lyrics to some of her songs for her charity project called Project Clean Water. She also got some other songwriters to handwrite and sign some of their own songs including Jason Mraz, Gretchen Wilson, Carrie Underwood, etc. Project Clean Water is an organization that helps communities with no clean water build and filter water so that they can have a source of clean water. This must be repetitive, but I want to record what I've been doing so I can remember if I have to do stuff on my own.

1. Ran a mile to warm up
2. Did walking lunges, then did a duck walk type thing where I did lunges but didn't stand all the way up
3. Ran 2 stairs
4. 15 squats with a 18 pound (? maybe more) bar held on my shoulders
6. Ran 2 stairs
7. 15 squats again

Then we went down to the weight machines.

8. 4 sets on the machine where you sit and push back with your legs (set of 15 for 2 sets then 12 for 2 sets, from 115, then in increments heavier and heavier)
9. 3 sets (of 15) those leg lift thingies where you sit and there's a bar where your ankles are (started off at 45, then increased as we went on)
10. 3 sets (of 15) on the machine that is kind of like #9 but the opposite way, where you're actually pushing down on the bar instead of lifting

Wow, I'm still floating on air and I'm amazed by how my family has reacted by the news. It makes me feel so bad ass!!! WAAAAGH!!!!!

Since I'm here, I might as well log in my last training session:

First I ran a mile to warm up (personal best so far ... 13 minutes) and then we go to working on my upper body since the Tuesday session was mainly legs and abs. So we started off on a machine where I worked on my biceps by pushing arms together from the sides. I did 3 or 4 sets of those. In between those sets, I did 12 squats while lifting some 5 pound free weights as I went down. After those, I went over to one of those big weight set ups with all the harnesses and things hanging from them. I sat down and braced myself with my legs and did little pulley things to exercise my biceps and back. I did 3 or 4 sets of 12. In between I also did 12 dips (where you hold yourself up with your arms and do dips like you're in a sitting position) to work on my triceps. Triceps are haaaaard! Then we stretched out.

The previous session, to work on legs, I did a bunch of squats (with resistance from my trainer as well as holding the down position for 5 seconds), lunges (with resistance from my trainer as well as holding the down position for 5 seconds), ran stairs for 2 minutes, worked on crunches, ab circles, and upper ab crunches. I hate doing the sit ups where I have to toss a weight ball at the trainer. Ooof.

Training Session #2

So for today, my trainer had told me to eat something like oatmeal and some protein (like eggs) an hour before our session so that I would have energy. I followed her instructions and was ready to go by the time we met up.

Today we did more lunges (my favorite *sarcasm*) and squats (second favorite) finishing with catching and tossing a medicine ball (oof). In addition I did sets of ab exercises and push ups (including balancing on my forearms while she tried to push my "core"). She introduced a new thing: walking around the track while doing curls. Nothing entirely exciting. But what was exciting, was that I pushed myself to finish. I did a tad better than Tuesday, which was what I was aiming for.

I still got my ass kicked though. I came home, feeling like I was going to throw up. Then, I passed out on the living room floor for a bit. After I showered, I fell asleep.

I've decided to get a personal trainer at Bally's and today was my first session. First of all, let's get this out of the way: I can't move my arms at the moment :(

So this is how the first session went: Started off warming up on the bike for 10 minutes. Then we went to a training room, where we sort of did circuit training. I have no idea what that means, but that's what my trainer said. We did some squats, push ups, arms lifts, lunges, and weights. I am a bit disappointed in myself because I only went through 2.5 cycles before I felt nauseous. Were were also supposed to do ab stuff. We stopped the session and I had to sit and rest while I ate a granola bar with some yogurt. Apparently, I didn't eat the right kind of food at the right time before working out. I also need to (of course) work on some cardio to get my heart up to condition.

All I know is, I laid on my stomach when I got home for like 10 minutes and tried to use my arms to get up and realized I couldn't so I had to roll over and sit up. LOL.

So the next 2 days I'm supposed to do 20 minutes worth of cardio by walking at like 4 miles per hour at an incline of 7. I'll report back tomorrow. :)

7. When LiLo mentioned ACDC (the Miley & Mandy vs step up dance
battle), it would have been amazing if a dance battle ensued at that
point.

Overall. I guess this was better than last year's. Last year's theme
with the flashing sequences and fast cuts just about triggered
epilepsy. I miss the old days when one could rely on MTV awards shows
to see unexpected shenanigans. Instead we get bad scripted acts.

Post Bar Trip - Western Caribbean Cruise

I've just come back from a fantastic cruise. I'm rested (at least starting to) and tanned. The 7 day cruise stopped at Cozumel Mexico, Roatan Honduras, Belize City Belize, and Freeport Bahamas.

We did the cruise through Carnival and booked everything through them. It was really convenient because we didn't have to worry about the transportation or flights. I had never been on a cruise before and severely underpacked. Oh well, it worked out and I was able to go to all the dinners without getting kicked out.

The Boat Life
When we had days at sea, it was basically, wake up, eat, sleep in the sun, eat, nap, and then get ready for dinner. That's what I call relaxation.

The Glory

My goal was to get at least one drink with a little umbrella. Check.

Safety drill. I'm taking it very seriously. Obviously.

Would you believe me if I said I wasn't drunk yet?

Everyday, these people were very very red. Like oompa loompas. Just sayin'.

Cozumel
In Cozumel, we signed up to do an ATV Jungle Tour. Though Cozumel had beautiful water, we weren't able to go in the water because of our time intensive excursion. Because I had gotten some tips from my friend Julie, I came prepared with an extra bandanna to protect both my face and hair from the dust kicked up by the ATVs. It was so fun and thank goodness I didn't stall or anything on the way. It was friggin' hot and we were filthy by the end. Any part of your body that was exposed would get covered by dirt and sweat. This one guy even had dirt in his mouth! And at our water break, he tried to get it out by picking with his finger. But he would leave more because his fingers were dirty too! Hahaha. I wanted to take a photo ...

Newly purchased hat. We bargained and then left and the guy ran after us to get us to buy it.

These are limestone wells. The Mayans used limestone to purify the rainwater to drink.

Roatan
In Honduras, we had a relaxing beach day. We went to this tiny beach called Coral Cay. The water was so clear and the sand was so white. Even in the shallow parts, there was fish swimming about. From the surface you could see fish swimming, crabs crawling by, sponges, and of course starfish. My friend even had a little stingray swim by. It was amazing. There were even two shipwreck sites off the beach where you could scuba and explore. There was even a band playing a variety of music. The water was warm and salty.

Belize City
Since Belize is surrounded by the second largest coral reef system (second to Australia's Great Barrier Reef), we had to use a system of boat tenders to get to shore. It was ... kind of rough. Belize is one of the few (or perhaps only) caribbean countries where the official language is English. In Belize, we did a ziplining excursion. Holy cow, it was so much fun!

Freeport Bahamas
In the Bahamas, we did some snorkeling. The water was pretty clear. Unfortunately, I got a little seasick on the boat and in the water. I only spent about 10 minutes snorkeling. It was still beautiful and I'm glad I did it.

I thought it was interesting that the island was full of these patches of trees.

Every night the steward would turn down the sheets and leave us with a different animal folded from towels. They were so cute! However, we weren't sure what some of them were. One of the people at our dinner table said they felt awkward when they accidentally walked into the steward folding the animal. LOL. He actually was startled and asked the lady to give him a second so that he could finish. Hehehehe.

A classmate of mine said she hopes something interesting happens at the bar this year. Well, her wish came true. There we are, 1,000 stressed people in a big hall typing away when a rumbling noise started. Most thought it was an airplane coming (including me). I sat for a while thinking the earthquake would end soon, but it didn't. Alas, I had to desert my post and go under the table as everyone else did. The funny thing is, many people continued typing away. It's not like the proctors said "okay, time out." So, many people didn't want to waste time! Some even brought their laptops under the table with them. LOL.

They always tell stories about disasters that happen during the bar exam. They tell us to be prepared for anything. They tell us about people having heart attacks, flooding, and the dreaded power outages! So now, earthquake will be added the list.

Edited to add: Now that I'm home and have recooperated somewhat. I've discovered the earthquake was merely a 5.4 and not 5.7. Though the earthquake felt long, it actually didn't feel that strong! Also, while a lot of people claim that the proctor gave us an extra five minutes, I don't think it was that long. He said he would give us a few extra minutes, but according to my watch, it was maybe 2 minutes at the most. I also don't feel a lot of people were fazed by the earthquake. Perhaps the non-Californians were jolted, but I think the majority of people chugged along. It's sad, but true that the bar makes testers have the mentality that they better not react to anything but the bar exam. We were told that if someone had a heart attack next to you, to just keep going because there will be no lenience to you just because something horrible occurred during the exam. Despite being a Californian, I am deathly afraid of earthquakes and thankful that it occurred near the end.

I had done my questions out of order so I really had nothing to say on my last essay since I didn't really know the law (mantra: we can fail an essay and still pass). So I was just sitting there thinking of new rules to make up when the earthquake happened. So when I sat back up, I really had nothing to add. The few things that I WAS able to add probably didn't make much sense. At least there weren't aftershocks, which I was expecting.

I wanted to post that song above because it is an awesome song. KT is awesome. KT is more awesome than I thought because she did a fucking awesome cover of it at her show last night. Yes. I've said awesome 234329 times already.

So, since my seats were not great, I decided to wait after the show to "meet" KT. She was really great (almost wrote awesome) and took the time to personalize everyone's autographs and take photos with everyone. It was super cool of her. We all waited for about an hour, which isn't that bad compared to other artists. Actually, I've never met anyone backstage because I always leave after waiting for an hour! So ... getting KT's autograph and photo was (drastic) fantastic!

Umm, the person who took this picture for me was lame and zoomed WAY in. Take 1. LMAO.

I just realized how it would have been fun to get her to sign it to bizzle. I told her "Liz" and she was like "elle-eye-zed?" Loved it ... zed. Heh. Then I drove off and saw that she was still signing so I screamed out my window "KT rocks my socks!" Hahaha ... like the crazy woman that I am.

Last night, I was lucky enough to win tickets to this cocktail reception for the culmination of this thing called MUSEXPO. It's this music industry conference with all these professionals in town and around to give talks and to network. It turned out to be a very cool event and made me wish I had business cards. I should really get on that and make some! The reception was to honor this lady named Alex Patsavas, Founder, Chop Shop Music Supervision ("Grey's Anatomy," "The OC"). She is the one who chooses music for the tv show. Anyway, when they were honoring her, they listed off what qualifications a music supervisor needs and I was dying.

Umm! Check, check, check!!! I need to be a music supervisor. It used to be (still is probably) my dream job! But it seems so narrow and hard to find a job in that. I hardly meet any music supervisors. Someone once told me how music supervisors are few and far in between these days because of the state of the music industry.

... that we all want to be like the sex and the city girls every once in a while. But will the upcoming movie live up to the expectations of the fans? Any writer or filmmaker knows you can't please everyone, but ... I think there are some pretty high expectations for this film. It's going to be really tough I think.

Warning! The trailer kind of shows a lot of plotlines, so you may not want to watch it if you really want to be surprised by the movie.

Anyway, I'm not sure I'm going to be happy with the movie!!! But I'll definitely still go see it. Anyone else excited about this film?

* I want Big and Carrie to end up together ... they better be faking us out with the trailer. I'm thinking he got sick or something and that's why she didn't get her fairy tale ending. Myra thinks it'd be horrible if he DIED or something! Though, I think that would make me cry if that happened in the movie.

Let's hope that the girls learn a little something and that they don't end up shallow city girls.

season 1 VS season 1719

I recently caught some of MTV's The Real World Awards Bash and it really dismayed me to see the progression of the show. I mean, the show was not anything emmy-worthy and not THAT important even in its hey-day, but at least throughout the first half of the show's being, the cast members had diversity and depth to them. The cast faced issues such as AIDS, STDs, racism, religion, and homosexuality. Though some of them are not as controversial as they once were when the show began, I think they are still important issues. Plus, the main thing I'm trying to get at is, it's interesting (to me) to see how different people come together and how they react to each other. Lately, the cast members seem to come from the same cookie-cutter mold of Ambercrombie/American Eagle model types who somehow want to work in the entertainment industry.

But all in all, I will probably check out The Real World: Hollywood just because it's where I live and I'm interested in seeing how our fine city will be portrayed. I hope the police aren't assholes like the San Diego police officers were.

*Edit: Though I guess that cowboy type guy in Sydney was kind of different. Kind of.

I'm really digging this song right now. I've never experienced what the song seems to be talking about, but it's a great song nonetheless. I think it's so anthemic and there's this sense of urgency. It really works well with the lyrics and emotions. Plus, the beginning can totally be used in a movie or tv show.

Speaking of MP3s, I just want to talk a bit about iTunes. I was listening to Indie 103 this morning and the DJ was talking about how he doesn't know anyone who buys music from Amazon. He only knows people who buy songs from iTunes. Personally, I am sick of iTunes and its proprietary files. Eff that. I want to be able to listen to my file on any program and device I want. Mac lovers talk about how great Apple and Steve Jobs is (and how evil MS is), but I think Apple is really the "evil" one (see newest issue of Wired or click here). Apple is soo into itself (or more correctly, Steve Jobs) that it forces the users into only using what they want you to use and limits your choices. And personally, I don't like anyone telling me what I can and can't do with something I bought with my own money. Steve Jobs tried to say that Apple only sold DRM-ed songs because of industry pressure. Oh really? Like it's the only time Apple has constrained programs to its hardware.

Mac people counter that it's okay that Apple limits users because of the consistent quality of products churned out. But I don't buy it. Why can't we get consistent quality AND choices?

I almost let myself think it would be cool to have an iPhone. Perhaps I'll still go for it ... if I get a good deal. But forget about actually purchasing it! ... just think of how Apple toyed with its customers when they released that! We'll charge $600. Oh too expensive? Okay, let's charge you $400. Oh sorry early adapters ... we'll give you a store credit to buy MORE apple products. Who cares that the actual worth of an iPod is like $60. And what's with allowing you to buy a song on iTunes wirelessly with your phone, but then you can only listen to it on your phone. That's messed up. I understand that technically, and legally, you are purchasing one copy of the song and thus should pay for another copy if you want it on your desktop too. BUT, my other instincts just cannot grasp that concept. That seems inherently ... um, retarded.
(don't sue me like you sued that kid who loves mac and started a web site devoted to new apple products and yet still holds no grudges)

Today was World Pillow Fight Day! The day was a day of pillow fighting, from London, to Atlanta, to Boston, to Los Angeles! It was pretty damn fun too. I certainly didn't expect to have as much fun as I did.

Of course, with a massive pillow fight, there had to be rules! Most importantly:

Only hit people with pillows
Do not hit people carrying cameras

So I went via subway because the event was at Pershing Square in downtown Los Angeles. I felt funny walking with a pillow in hand, but then I saw others with pillows and I didn't feel so weird.

I met up with my friends.

I totally ran into the crowd and joined the melee. It was effin' awesome.

The po po came and said some garbled crap that no one paid attention to.

There were feathers EVERYWHERE. I'm pretty sure I inadvertently swallowed a feather or two...

Okay, well not life exactly. I just had another funky dream that I wanted to chronicle. So in this dream, I was watching this YouTube video and suddenly I'm running around this store (kind of Target-ish) being chased by zombie-looking people. They can only be killed with these special guns that look like paper guns. Anyway, you can pass by zombies if they don't notice you or if you don't look at them. I was doing fine until I turn down one aisle and there are three of them blocking the way. They notice me and start chasing me. I start running down the aisle screaming "Help! Someone with a gun come help me!!!" And this guy is there and shoots two of them, but behind him is a zombie that gets to him. So in his last act, he tosses me the gun so I can start shooting. But then the gun jams or something and I don't get it to work! So again I start running.

I punch out one of them and I end up in like the top floor of this store where there are all these passageways to boiler rooms and to the roof where the ladders are all broken off so I can't escape that way. But as I'm exploring, I find a passageway that seems to lead off into a backyard area.

I'm now in this very grassy, forest-y area. So I start crawling as fast as I can to go undetected and I'm suddenly joined by a ton of people who are also trying to escape the zombies who are no longer zombies, but just like some tribal army or something. This, I think, is the influence of watching the movie 300 before going to bed.

As I trudge along, there are various obstacles and for some reason I am barefooted. At one point, there are people in the trees and throwing huge rocks at us. And by huge, I mean like the size of basketballs or larger! I had to run around dodging the rocks being thrown. Luckily I only got hit by some of the smaller stones (golf ball sized rocks). Then, we come upon an area full of quicksand so we have to maneuver around those. Luckily, as I move along, there is an area where there seems to be a camp of people who are fighting against the bad guys so they offer me some protection. The camp provided me with some weapons (it was like a water gun?) and I end up at this building.

I get to the building and it turns into the bad guys' headquarters or something so I have to be sneaky. I find a secret passageway in the backwall and I hit a deadend so I start digging. As I dig, I find walls and walls built of foam - kind of like the material in those Tempur-Pedic beds. I keep slicing and removing squares of the stuff. And then I feel like I'm racing to get to the end before I run out of air. Finally I cut away at this last bit and tear through to fresh air. I end up in this large white room with a computer in the middle. Then there's this girl there and she's explaining to me that this entire thing was an experimental game that was still in Beta. And I was like, "no shit it's still in Beta! I felt like I was going to die!"

Then I woke up ...

So I'm in class right now, but I just had to share what happened to me before class. Someone stole my parking spot AGAIN. In the SAME way!

This time, I honked and just stayed there. It happened at my school and the guy came out to my passenger side. I rolled down my window and was like, "Hey man ... you didn't see my signal?" To which he responded, "sig-nal??? what???" OMG. They were students too because they had backpacks on. Fucker. I mean, even if he did move, I wouldn't park there anymore ... for fear of getting keyed or something. But, what a jerk.

*sigh* Rude LA drivers!!!

Update: I just found this Bad Parking Blog and it made me think ... I need to take pictures of these a-holes (haha) and post them on the internet. Muahahaha!

Oh and let's just say I get really bored in class and that how I have so much time to read all these blogs. I have some other blogs that I read, but don't subscribe to like Dooce and Overheard in New York. They're entertaining, but I don't think I need to constantly be updated on them. Defamer: Hollywood gossip blog - part of the Gawker family. Though it's a gossip site, the news is pretty much reliable. Just think, studio execs keep an eye on this blog.

PrettyMuchAmazing!: Another music blog.
Discobelle: I get a lot of remixes from this site, but I usually don't read everything from here.
Rolling Stone Rock and Roll Daily: Umm, I hate the actual magazine publication (hasn't been relevant in forever and effin biased), but it's a good source to get daily music industry news (even if it is slanted). Plus, they update so frequently. But they don't ever post mp3s to download, so bleh.
Stereogum: This is one of the first indie music blogs I subscribed to. It's now a bit different than how it started out, but it's still a pretty good blog. Sometimes they get quite snarky, but they do a good job.
The Music Slut: Indie music blog. They post lots of rare mp3s.
Berkeley Place: The blogger used to post a ton of really rad live concerts and rare covers and stuff, but I think he got a cease and desist letter or something. So now, he's relocated from blogger to wordpress and only reviews non RIAA (usually) material. Still a good blog! My faves were when he did his A-Z posts, where he posts a song starting with each letter of the alphabet.
My Old Kentucky Blog: Another indie music blog. He doesn't update that much. But he has these awesome cover song posts filed under MOKB Cover Song Project.
Idolator: Newish music blog from the Gawker family. It's kind of a shiny version of indie music blogs.

On a totally unrelated note, I hate some drivers in LA. This is what happened recently. I was on Little Santa Monica looking for parking and there was a perfect spot right in front of Sprinkles. So I signal and pull in. Since it was the first spot in the row, I gave myself some extra room so that I can back up into it. As I start to back up into it, this stupid bitch pulls right into the spot! WTF woman! Here's a diagram to help:

First of all, thanks to everyone who sent me birthday wishes! It was great hearing from everyone!

My day was not anything wild and crazy, but it was very satisfying. I decided to go skiing at Mt. High by myself. Though the drive was not fun, at least I didn't hit too much traffic. Since the ski rental place has one of those frequent customer punch cards, I had a free rental coming. The guy at the store was so nice that he even gave me a few punches just because it was my birthday. After getting my gear, I head to the resort, where I got a free lift ticket because it was my birthday! Yay! So all in all, the trip just cost me $20 in gas. Not bad at all. Plus, it was a beautiful day. The drive home was definitely more crowded, but I got home in 2.5 hours. The only time I caught traffic was when I entered LA proper and had to deal with the downtown traffic. Ugh.

Then I got home and showered and went to class. Yes. I went to an 8 pm class on my birthday. But what else would I have done anyway??? But after class I went to my friend's house where we watched LOST while sipping on martinis and munching on popcorn. The martinis were my friend's creations, but they were DELISH. I don't know the exact measurements, but there was some pear vodka, cranberry juice, a squeeze of lime and pear garnish. Oh and don't forget the sugared rim! I'll have to make them sometime for myself :)

So yeah ... all in all, it was a nice end to my birthday. I ended up skipping my morning Friday class and slept-in instead.

ok, it's not as sexy as I want it to sound, but I am bored and I can't fall back asleep. Here is the summary of the last 8 hours or so:

Last night, 10:00 pm: I decide at the last minute to go skiing with my friend who has an extra spot for their trip the next day (today).

10:30 pm: I drive home through the crappy rain and traffic to my parents to get my snow gear.

Last night, 11:30 pm: I drive back to LA (still pouring rain) with my snow gear.

Last night (technically today), 12:30 am: I arrive back in LA.

2:00 am: I finally get to bed after prepping my stuff for the next day.

5:30 am: I roll out of bed and check the snow report/weather. Stupid web site says slopes are closed until 7 am, when they will update again. The weather report on www.weather.com says rain/snow throughout the day and is really NOT helpful because I wanted to know if it was rain OR snow! It makes a big difference if I'm trying to ski! I've been up there in slushy snow ... it's no fun.

5:45 am: I decide to hop in the shower to wake up and get ready anyway.

6:00 am: I'm supposed to leave by now to meet my friend, who will then drive us to her friend's house where we are departing from. I check weather.com and the snow report again and it's still the same. Snow levels at 8,000 feet and expected to lower by evening. Yeah, that is not quite helpful ... I need specific times folks!

6:05 am: I'm not feeling it and cancel on my friend (and subsequently qualify myself as a flake). I don't like being perceived as a flake and I think in this situation I probably look like one. *sigh*

6:30 am: I check the snow report again just to spite myself and discover that now the lower slopes are open from 8 am to 10 pm and "there is currently no rain falling, but we expect snow when it does start up again." And now my mood is sullied.

7:19 am: ...And I'm still awake. And hungry. That fucking shower did the trick. Why am I awake at this hour on a Sunday? Damn it! Why didn't I just go? Why am I the type to freak out over weather reports and need to check everything before leaving and thus let my paranoia take over?

Oh, and Celine Dion is kind of, sort of crazy ... but in a fun way. And of course AMAZING!

I don't remember much about Alaska, but I do have vague memories of me playing in the snow. The most vivid memory I have is when my brothers were in our front yard shoveling snow. They decided to build an underground tunnel system for me. It was awesome. They even made slides for me. Then they decided to make a snow man and use my funny mustache glasses.
But the very thing that I've remember was how the next day, the snowman had started melting and the glasses were gone :(

Anyway, in true kiddie fashion, I knew they were in one of the boxes. So in order to sneak a peak, I grabbed a few boxes and jumped behind the couch to take a look. Please download that song by right clicking > save as. "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" is one of my favorite Christmas songs, if not, my very favorite. It's always so beautiful no matter who's singing, but Chris Martin kind of gives this rendition a classic sound. Love it.

Anyway, the point of this post is to say, I have officially started counting down till my graduation (see the countdown clock on the right). I never really wanted to do that before because I felt like graduation was so far away, but seeing that I am almost free and clear of this semester (one more paper due on Dec 20th), I thought I should celebrate! It's unfortunate that I can't just say I am 5 months from becoming a lawyer, as sadly, I still have to take the bar at the end of July and then I won't find out if I pass until November. Talk about leaving you out in the cold, eh?

Developed by the Graffiti Research Lab a division of the Eyebeam R&D OpenLab, LED Throwies are an inexpensive way to add color to any ferromagnetic surface in your neighborhood. A Throwie consists of a lithium battery, a 10mm diffused LED and a rare-earth magnet taped together. Throw it up high and in quantity to impress your friends and city officials.

Project Welcome Home LA used these to make a statement on the state of neglected areas like LA's Skid Row in downtown. (Via LAist)
